Boxted returned to Cage Lane in their brand spanking new kit, so many thanks to Gene Pugh and Anglia Skip Hire for supporting the team again this year.
The team was unchanged from the previous weeks result at Great Bradfords, the only change was Andy Driver returning from holiday on the bench.
Boxted started well and a free kick from the left hand side was superbly glanced in by Gray to put Boxted in the lead. This unfortunately only lasted a few minutes when Elliot was judged as handballing in the area and the resultant penalty was dispatched well by the visitors skipper.
The dubious penalty decision seemed to rattle Boxted for a while and any fluidity was lost and allowed he visitors to put some pressure on but Gray was excellent in blocking some shots and Ford’s presence again grew as the game went on. Boxted finally got going and Hume was unlucky to see his header saved by the keeper with a slight suspicion that the ball had crossed the line. Bures were also lucky to not give away a penalty when their defender appeared to handle the ball. Bures also threatened and Addington managed to turn a shot around the post. So half time and the scores were level.
The second half started and Boxted took control of the game, rather than trying to play the killer ball every time they started to keep possession and play football the way it should be - on the deck. Dowde was proving a menace up front and was being fouled constantly, but he needed to control his temper a bit better. A few long shots were hit on the away goal but nothing really on target. Hume again went close with a header from a short corner between Clarke and Trueman but the visitors keeper was again equal to it. Boxted kept the cool and kept going, Dowde was again fouled and a free kick was given on the left hand side. Bradbury lined up and drilled a shot all from 25 yards which nestled in the bottom corner. A great finish and good to see the striker off the mark.
Boxted continued to control the half and looked very secure at the back and the midfield were starting to dominate. Dowde went through on the right and his shot was saved and somehow just evaded Hume who was following up.
The final whistle went and Boxted stay unbeaten in the league this season and a much better performance against a good side.
Final score Boxted 2 Bures 1
